HELGE KEMNER, Swedish 1883-1934, oil on panel, signed and dated 1912, landscape with lilac hedge by country road.  Lilac - Syringa vulgaris, is a very common hedging plant in southern Sweden, even central Stockholm is perfumed by its flowers during May.

John Helge Helge Daniel Kemner, born 03.08.1883 in Malmö, died 19.07.1934 in Lund, his brother was the entomologist Nils Kemner.

1906-1907 - studied art at the Teknisk Skole in Copenhagen.  After that he spent time in München and Dachau, with a longer 1910 - studies in Paris.

1921 - study trip to Italy.

Kemner’s landscape art is strongly lyrical in tone and came to its fore in the views from Romeleåsen.
