GABRIEL BURMEISTER, Swedish 1886-1946, oil on canvas, signed and dated 1907, Swedish farming landscape view.

Gabriel Henric Burmeister, born 09.07.1886 in Karlshamn, died 30.05.1946 in Timmernabben, Ålems Parish, Kalmar County, he was a Swedish painter and engraver.

1899 - Nya Elementarläroverket in Stockholm.

1904 - Tekniska Skolan, evening and day classes in art.

1906-7 scholarship to study decorative painting.

1907 - Académie Colarossi, Paris studying with Kr. Krogh. He pursued private study with professor A. Höke at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design.

1907 - he became self-sufficient.

1908 - Swedish Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm studying engraving with Axel Tallberg.

1912 - opened his own etching school in Stockholm.

1915 - founds the art publishers Grafia.

1921-22 art director at Uppsala- Ekeby.

1922-25 art director at Bobergska fabrikerna in Gävle - faience and glass works.

1923 - art director at Boda Glass Works.

1925 - cofounder of Gabriel Fajansverken.

1925 - art director at Målerås Glass Works.

To begin with, he worked in the field of engraving and etching where he developed his own technique, since named the Gabriel Aquatint.  He also introduced new methods to woodcuts and lithography.  His paintings are often of landscapes with isolated trees, he also did designs for textiles and tapestries.
