A Swedish Gustavian revival Secrétaire with marquetry inlay in various woods on a Kingwood ground and a fitted interior.  The piece bears a paper label for the cabinet maker Ax. J. Hj. FRID, Möbelsnickare, Stockholm, dated in pencil Christmas 1930.

 

Axel Johan Hjalmar Frid, born 23.02.1884 in Tryde, Kristianstads county.  Master Cabinet Maker, owner of Ax. J. Hj. FRID, Möbelsnickare, Stockholm, established 1916.  He started in the trade in 1899 and received his Gesällbrev - Journeymans Papers at Ystad in 1903.  He became a member of the Steering Council of the Stockholm Master Cabinet Makers and a member of the Review Board for Journeymen.  In 1931 he became a member of Stockholms Borgarskap, an organisation for business owners and entrepreneurs.  His speciality was in the Gustavian styles and inlay work.
