Fritz Lambert Smedberg, born 20.01.1900 in Norrbärke, Kopparberg’s County, died 14.03.1977 in Gävle, he was a Swedish Artist.
1917 - studies at Althin’s Art School, Stockholm.
1918 - 1919 - study with Oscar Björck at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
1920 - first Solo Exhibition in Gävle, Sweden, followed by many more there.
1922 - studies at Akademie der bildenden Künste in Vienna.
1926 - studies at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.
1935 - exhibition in Oslo.
He did several study tours including Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Spain and the Canary Islands.
He also exhibited at many other galleries throughout Sweden. He also took part in exhibitions in the Royal Swedish Academy of Art. His early landscapes from the Gästrikland area are in a romantic style, which gives way in the late 1920's to an expressive style. Following a visit to Telemark in 1929 he starts to paint more of the mountainous Norway.
1938 - he builds a studio in Flatdal, Norway and becomes part of the Norwegian art circle with Henrik Sørensen, Kai Fjell och Harald Kihle. With these artists and the dramatic landscape his work achieves a mosaic character with light filled colours.
The war years were spent in Sweden painting on the west coast and in the northern regions, returning to Norway at the end of the war.
He was also commissioned to paint several society portraits.
